Shangri-La Hotels
I love my job as a freelance professional photographer. Every day I wake up to a new view or a new challenge. I recently woke to a new view every week when I did the grand tour of Shangri La hotels throughout the Asia Pacific region. The project took me from Sydney to Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur to Yangon and Chiang Mai over three months.
I probably shouldn’t admit it here publicly, but the highlight, and the thing I looked forward to the most on this little adventure was the Shangri La breakfasts. They know how to put on a spread.
The focus of this project was updating their room photography. Their previous images were all shot at night. To emphasise their new visual direction, they chose this time to shoot exclusively during the day with minimal-to-no lighting. This made the rooms look modern, fresh, clean and inviting.
I worked with marketing, operations, housekeeping and engineering to create these images as a collaboration. With the beds and the views taking centre stage.
